Jon served as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army from 1968-69 during the Vietnam war. He earned a Silver Star, a Bronze Star with Valor, the Army Commendation Medal with Valor, the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, and a Purple Heart. He was inducted into the Ohio Military Hall of Fame in 2017.

He was a longtime volunteer as a coach and umpire of the Bowling Green Youth Baseball League. He was inducted into the Bowling Green Youth Baseball Hall of Fame in 2018. Jon was the co-founder, with Jack Kieffer, and a director of the Great Black Swamp Baseball Tournament.

Jon enjoyed spending weekends with his family and friends at his Round Lake cottage in Reading, Michigan.

Jon worked in medical sales as a bracing rep through Donjoy. He serviced northwest Ohio physician practices, hospitals, and athletic departments of colleges and high schools, turning clients and customers into lifelong friends.

We will miss the joy Jon brought to Round Lake. He was at peace on the water, welcoming friends and family, and any crappie who were brave enough to be seen! And speaking of being seen - Jon AND his bonfires illuminated the south side of the lake on many s´mores evenings.

If I could choose one word that would describe Jon it would be "Loyal". My condolences go out to Carol and the rest of Jon´s family. I will tell you that I loved Jon like a brother, he will be deeply missed. Jon was always my go to phone call, he was a great listener and advisor.
