John Jones Obituary

John P Jones

John P Jones, 83, formerly of Findlay, passed away Jan. 4, 2023. He was residing in Harlingen, Texas.

He was born April 8, 1939, in Canton, to Paul Jones and Nellie Sloan Jones Eaton and grew up and attended school in Minerva.

In a romantic Christmas Eve ceremony in 1967, he married his one true love, Virginia Collingwood, now of Fremont. While love is strong, some things are not meant to be and they divorced in 1982. He carried her photo with him for the rest of his life. They had two children, Amber Jones of McComb and Tiffany Jones of Fremont, and two grandsons, Luke Kish and Dalton Welty. All survive. He later had a son, John Michael Jones, with his companion, Joyce Richardson. They survive in Ft. Myers, Florida.

John served in U.S. Air Force from 1956-1958. He was trained to be a jet plane mechanic and served 12 months at Labrador AFB, after which he was honorably discharged. John had a very interesting and eventful life. He drove for country singer Dottie West where he met many interesting people. He was a Black Jack dealer in Las Vegas. He did announcing and emcee for county fairs. His favorite job was being an announcer for Dan Fleenor's Hurricane Hell Drivers stunt car show for 12 years. He loved this exciting work and traveled extensively with them. When traveling became tiring, he used his GI benefits to study Tool and Die making. He worked for Stohly Precision Tool in Dayton and SS Tool & Die in Union, Kentucky. After his retirement, he moved to Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Barbara Hendricks and Kay Hall Gregory.
