John Cain

John E. Cain, 83, of Findlay, passed away Monday, February 3, 2025, at his home after a lengthy battle with cancer surrounded by his family. John was born at his home in Arcadia February 28, 1941, to the late Donald D. and Martha Geneva (Barkimer) Cain.

On December 24, 1960, John and Mary Ellen Campbell, daughter of C. Dean Campbell and Mildred Buckingham were married at The Howard Methodist Church by Robert Cramer. They were married 64 years, and she survives along with two daughters, Lisa (Rick) Dillon and Julie (Jan) Abell of Franklin; grandchildren, Jessica (Deric) Lucas of Morrow, Amanda (Nick) Hinds of Cincinnati, Joseph Abell of Franklin, Tyler (Ashley) Dillon of W. Carrollton and Emily (Luke) Alyea of Franklin; great-grandchildren, Gracelynne and Christian Lucas, Olivia, Easton and Noah Hinds, Sutton Brannon, Bellamy Dillon and Paxton Alyea; sister, Ruthanne Wohlgamuth of Findlay.

His family moved to Findlay in 1950. He attended Findlay City Schools graduating from Glenwood Jr. High in 1956 and Findlay High School in 1959. After school he worked at Warren Clothing Store for a year before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force from 1960-1964. He was stationed at Chanute AFB. III. After two years, they were transferred to Robins AFB, Warner Robins, Georgia. It was here on December 12, 1962, that daughter Lisa was born. John worked in the weather equipment field maintenance shop, which covered the air bases in the south/eastern United States In 1963, he was transferred back to Chanute AFB where he worked in the weather equipment school He was discharged in Oct of 1964 and moved back to Findlay, where daughter, Julie was born.

John went to work at RCA after the Air Force, then started working at the Republican Courier as Assistant Circulation Manager, then The Courier Circulation Manager for 32 years. With the help of his assistant, Scott Fenimore and mailroom foreman, Clair Hartman, the Courier's delivery system and mailroom operation was updated and modernized. John became involved with the Ohio Circulation Association. He was on the board of directors for 6 years before becoming president in 1981. He was also chairman of the Outstanding Youth Carrier program for 18 years. Following OCMA, he was a member of International Circulation Managers Association, where he was on the board of directors for three years.

John had many hobbies, including cooking and baking, along with genealogy, in which he found his great-great-grandfather, who fought in the Civil War. After moving to their vacation home on Topsail Island, North Carolina, they enjoyed the beach and were interested in sea turtles. They worked for 20 years at Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Hospital, teaching about sea turtles, nesting, and more.

Visitation will be at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME in Findlay Sunday, February 9, 2025, from 1-4 p.m. and on Monday from 10-11 a.m. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday with Pastor Gay Blau officiating. Burial will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery where full military rites will be conducted by Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad.
