Jeanette Barker Obituary

Jeanette Barker

Jeanette Barker, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2023, at Birchaven Village surrounded by her loving family. She blessed us with her presence for 85 loving years.

Jeanette was born July 3, 1938, in Findlay, to Gale and Helen (Parkins) Augsburger. She grew up in McComb, where she attended McComb High School and graduated as part of the class of 1956.

Upon marriage, Jeanette dedicated herself to being a loving and supportive wife and mother. She found immense joy and fulfillment in creating a warm and inviting home for her family. Her home cooked meals were cherished by all who were fortunate enough to taste them and her family relished the time spent together around the dinner table.

Jeanette's kindness extended far beyond her own family. Known for her compassionate and giving nature, she always went out of her way to help others in need. Whether it was lending a listening ear, offering a helping hand, or providing a comforting embrace. Jeanette's heart was always open to those around her.

Family was the cornerstone of Jeanette's life. She shared a deep and unwavering love with her devoted husband, Donald Barker, whom she met while in high school. They were married July 13, 1958, and he survives. Together, they built a strong union that stood as a testament to their enduring love for over six decades. Jeanette was also a loving and dedicated mother to her five children, Sonja (Michael) Brand, Bradley (Paula) Barker, David (Terri) Barker, Dennis (Angela) Barker, and Karen (Chris) Dishong. Her legacy lives on through her 12 cherished grandchildren, Matt (Emily) Brand, Rebecca (Chase) Scarbrough, Marcus (Paige) Brand, Nicholas (Jennifer) Barker, Ben Barker, Victoria (Matt Gentry) Barker, Brittni (David) Gladysz, Rachel (Andrew) Dee, Branson Barker, Sarah Dishong, Lauren Dishong, and Grant Dishong, loving great-grandchildren, Vince, Dominic, Noelle, Andrew, Anna, Ava, Savannah, Malia, Arianna, Aurora, and Lennon, and siblings, Jane (Dan) Lammers and Dwain Augsburger.

In her spare time, Jeanette enjoyed traveling with Donald, exploring new destinations, and creating wonderful memories together. She found solace and peace in her beautiful garden, where she lovingly tended to her plants and flowers. Jeanette also possessed a passion for singing at church and could often be found filling her home with joyful melodies.

To honor and remember Jeanette's life, a celebration of life service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 1, 2023, at Hanneman Funeral Home, 370 Park Dr S., McComb, Ohio, 45858, where visitation will begin at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, City Mission of Findlay, or The Women's Resource Center of Findlay.

August 31, 2023

Don and family,
I am so very sorry for your loss. Although I only met Jeanette in January of this year, I will always remember her beautiful smile, her kindness, and how she would extend her hand to give me a warm hello when I visited Birchaven. I will always be grateful for her kindness to my mother, Betty McCall, when she first moved to Birchaven. Each time I visited my mom from Pittsburgh, I looked forward to seeing you and Jeanette as well. I'm sorry that I don't live close enough to attend tomorrow's Celebration of Life but you will all be in my thoughts. Janet McCall
