Janet Sue Layne

Jan Layne, 86, life-long resident of Findlay, passed away Sunday, Aug. 21, 2022, at Heritage Care Center. She was born Aug. 2, 1936, to Mary K. Reichenbaugh and Vernon C. Dunbar.

She is survived by her five children, Gary (Carolyn) Layne of Bowling Green, Ohio, Terry (Dan) Bauer of Reynoldsburg, Mary Nan Adkins (Rod) of Powell, Jeff (Terry) Layne of Willis, Texas, and Dr. Drew (Heather) Layne of Findlay; 12 devoted grandchildren, Christopher and Margaret Layne, Logan (Mike) Williard, Lake (Sam) Bauer, Nick and Luke Daugherty, Brooke (Justan) May, Ryan and Alex Layne, and Lexie, Brayden, and Campbell Layne; five great-grandchildren, Emma, James, Mazie, Cameron, and EJ; sister-in-law, Joyce Layne; and five nieces and nephews. Her parents and adored husband, Emil, preceded her in death.

Jan graduated from Findlay High School in 1954, and worked at YMCA and 26 years at RCA/Harris. An avid unicyclist and 4-H advisor for 50 years, Jan helped hundreds of beginners learn to ride with her husband, Emil. She started two unicycle groups, Smiling Faces in Findlay and WOW in Bowling Green, and could be seen in parades all around Ohio and surrounding states. She was a volunteer and spent time with friends at YMCA. She was a very active member of St. Michael Parish. Jan had a great family, many friends, and a wonderful life and wanted to thank everyone who made it so.

Visitation for Jan will be 12-3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, 2022, at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 29, 2022, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 750 Bright Road, with Fr. Peter Grodi celebrant. Jan was a big part of our lives and will be sadly missed. She was big on family and the structure it takes to make things happen! Myself, Sarah and Amber will be forever grateful for the experience that Jan gave us through WOW unicycle club.

Jan was a wonderful friend and so much fun. Our 4 musketeers once a month shopping trips were always a highlight of the month. In all the yrs I worked with her at RCA, I never heard her say a bad word about anything or anyone. God now has one of his earthly angels back home in heaven. Praying God gives all of you comfort and peace. She has been and will be sorely missed.
