Janet Koberstein Obituary

Janet (Brindle) Koberstein

Janet Louise Brindle Koberstein, 77, of Marshall, Michigan, entered the Lord's Kingdom on Saturday, Dec. 24, 2022, joining her recently deceased husband of 55 years, Kenneth Koberstein.

She was born July 22, 1945, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to David Anthony Brindle and Louise (Wible) Brindle. She attended St. Casimir Parochial School in Lansing, Michigan, and graduated from Findlay High School. She earned her degree in nursing at St Vincent's School of Nursing, Toledo. As a registered nurse, she dedicated her life assisting others, serving the communities of St. Vincent's Hospital in Toledo, Annapolis Hospital in Wayne, Foote Memorial Hospital and Home Health Nurse in Jackson, and Addison Community Hospital, ending her career at Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall.

Her caring and nurturing nature extended into her personal life. During their life together, Jan and Ken welcomed many foster children into their home through Saint Vincent Catholic Charities and sponsored Hungarian exchange students. Several of these remained very close family members, including Judit Lendvay and her sons, Bence and Barnabas Laczhazi, and Dana (Alan) Hummer. A tireless member of her church community, Jan dedicated numerous hours as a catechism instructor and Christmas pageant coordinator at St. Rita's Church of Clark Lake, Michigan. Her passions included her granddaughters, sewing, gardening, and Disney World. She volunteered as a master gardener with Michigan State University and her home garden was on the Marshall Garden Tour. She loved sharing her Disney passion with her family and many nieces and nephews.

Janet is survived by her older brothers, William (Jeanette) Brindle and David (Janice) Brindle; younger sister, Mary (Steve) Orton; best friend and sister-in-law, Joyce (James) Kristufek; son, Nicholas (Terri Thompson); daughter, Alissa (David) VanHoof; and granddaughters, Rhiannon Hubbell, Margaret Koberstein, and Anna Koberstein.

Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 25, 2023, at Saint Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 750 Bright Road, Findlay, Ohio, 45840. Visitation begins at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Saint Vincent Catholic Charities (stvcc.org/donating) are welcomed.

So very sorry to hear that Jan passed away. So many good memories as friends and neighbours while we lived at Lake Le Ann. She and Ken helped my family in so many ways and introduced us and helped us with our Hungarian Exchange Student and her family. Our Children went to school together as well as Church at St. Rita's. Allissa and Nick I am so sorry that you have experienced the loss of both parents in such a short span of time. My sincere sympathies to Judit also who as an Hungarian Exchange Student was a member of the family from the time of her experience in High School and College. You all are in my prayers.

Many wonderful memories of Janet starting from high school and continuing through the years. We shared so much laughter, and some tears, as we graduated from hs and college, got married, and raised our kids. She was a special person who enriched my life. I will never hear an Elvis song without thinking of her. May you RIP, dear Janet.

Nick and Alissa. I´m so very sorry for the loss of both your parents. I have known your Mother for years. We became friends when you lived at lake LeAnn. I have done her hair and enjoyed her humor and grace. We had many fun outings over the years. Lots of lunches...casino trips...gardening and sewing tips. I heard a lot about your lives and your children´s lives. She loved you all so. Please know I have special place in my heart for your Mom and will keep all of you in my thoughts and daily prayers.
