Jan Miller Obituary

Jan Arnold Miller

Jan Arnold Miller, 83, passed away peacefully at StoryPoint Memory Care Findlay, Saturday, January 3, 2026, and went to meet his Lord and Savior. He was born December 11, 1942, in Huntington, Indiana, to Dwight and Christene (Cossairt) Miller, both of whom preceded him in death.

Jan married the love of his life, Kathleen Gase, April 16, 1966, at St. Wendelin Catholic Church in Fostoria. Jan and Kathy would have been married 60 years this April. Together they were blessed with four children, Jeff Miller of Houston, Texas, Greg Miller of Findlay, (fiancé, Lori Niswander), Dennis (Beth) Miller of Greenville, South Carolina, and Janelle Miller of Houston, Texas.

Jan was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren, Holden, Sterling, and Janson Miller, Alex and Wyatt Miller, and Sara Miller, all of whom brought him great joy.

He is also survived by extended family members, including Betty (Jack) Brink of Findlay and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Jan spent much of his youth in South Bend, Indiana, and graduated from John Adams High School. He went on to attend Purdue University, where he entered the freshman engineering program, played cornet in the Purdue University Marching Band, and was a member of Alpha Phi Omega, a national service fraternity. He graduated in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Following graduation, Jan moved to Findlay, Ohio, where he began a long and distinguished career with Marathon Oil Company. While employed there, he also served in the United States Army Reserve. Jan retired from Marathon Ashland Petroleum in 2003 after 38 years of service, having worked as a Senior Fuels and Lubricants Engineer in the Marketing Division.

Throughout his career, Jan was deeply involved in his profession. He was a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers and the American Society of Lubrication Engineers, and was very active in the American Petroleum Institute (API). He served on the API Detroit Advisory Panel for automotive fuels and lubricants, the API Off-Highway Equipment Panel for fuels and lubricants used in farming and construction equipment, and was a past chairman of the Off-Highway Panel.

Outside of work, Jan enjoyed traveling, fishing, and camping with his family. He especially treasured time spent with his grandchildren and enjoyed golfing with friends. Jan had a deep appreciation for music, including show tunes, rock and roll, and classical music, and he particularly loved polka dancing with his wife at polka festivals.

Jan was a member of American Legion Post 3 and Moose Lodge 698. He was also a devoted member of the Knights of Columbus, achieving both Third and Fourth Degrees and previously serving as Faithful Navigator of the Fourth Degree. Jan was a lifelong member of St. Michael's Catholic Church.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. Sharon Cole, the compassionate nurses at Armes Cancer Center, and the caring staff at Story Point Nursing Home for their exceptional care, kindness, and support.

The service will be at St. Michael the Archangel's main church Thursday, January 8, 2026, 750 Bright Road, Findlay. Visitation will be from 10 a.m.- noon, followed by Mass of Christian burial celebrated at the church, with celebrants Father Adam Hertzfeld and Father Simon Herrmann officiating. Burial will follow at St. Michael's Cemetery with full military honors performed by Hancock County Veterans Squad.

Memorials can be made to St. Michael's Church, 750 Bright Road, Findlay, Ohio 45840, City Mission of Findlay, 510 West Main Cross Street, Findlay, Ohio 45840 and Chopin Hall, 1800 North Blanchard Street, Findlay, Ohio 45840.
