James Smithson Obituary

James Christian Smithson

James Christian Smithson, 69, of Findlay, passed away Thursday, Oct. 24, 2024, at his residence. He was born Dec. 9, 1954, in Findlay to the late John C. and Mary F. (Wiseley) Smithson.

Jim is survived by his beloved daughter, Tracelin (James) Hampton; and granddaughters, Charlotte and Addison Hampton. He is also survived by a brother, Doug Smithson; sisters, Mary (Robert) Mihaly and Elizabeth (Martin) Swartz; uncle and aunt, Richard and Sandra Wiseley; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Paul Smithson. He was the grandson of Chester O. and Ruth (Barnhart) Smithson and Dr. Frank M. and Mary Charlotte (Shafer) Wiseley.

A lifelong resident of Findlay, Jim attended Findlay Senior High School and Ohio Northern University. He spent most of his professional career at Blanchard Valley Hospital. Jim was a lover of music and science fiction, and followed news of technological innovations closely. He enjoyed amateur road racing and treasured a succession of Airedale Terriers, all named Sandy.

Services to be at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to KIRKPATRICK-BEHNKE FUNERAL HOME, Findlay, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Red Cross.

Jim always struck me as a fun, carefree guy. I can't recall seeing him since high school, but I hope the rest of his life was as much fun as the first 18 years seemed to be.

My deepest condolences to his children and grandchildren, and his surviving siblings Doug, Mary and Elizabeth who lived right across Main Street from my family. I hope you all are doing relatively well!
