James Post Obituary

James Bernard Post

James Bernard "Jim" Post, 94, passed away peacefully Sunday, Sept. 3, 2023, at Birchaven Village, Findlay. Jim was only a resident of Ohio for the last 11 months.

James was born Jan. 4, 1929, in Chicago, Illinois, the second of 12 children born to Bernard Henry Post and Helen Doersam Post.

Prior to moving to Ohio for health reasons, he lived in Jonesville and Jackson, Michigan.

As a young boy, Jim attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and Hudson High School. He was a graduate of the class of 1947. He claimed that one of his most memorable jobs was working at the Menges gas station in Hudson. A few years after high school, in 1950, he joined U.S. Navy. His tour of duty was during the Korean Conflict. However, he was stationed in the French Morocco and he has some great memories of helping out in the officers club as a bartender or party coordinator. He developed a few recipes there too. He was honorably discharged in 1954 and he returned home to the United States.

Upon his return to the USA, he began to convince Mary Alice Van Wie that he was the man for her. It took him a few times asking, but finally convinced her to marry him Aug. 24, 1955. This union produced two children, Kevin Post (Debra) and Mary Kay Nedry (James) who survive him, along with three grandsons, Daniel, Scott, and Brien Nedry. Their marriage of 33 years came to a close when Mary passed of multiple sclerosis.

Consumer Power in Jackson was his primary job during his adult life. He loved the role of Senior Purchaser and mentioned the people he worked with often, especially Malcom G. Theil, who was known as Mel and also one of his best friends. Jim retired in 1990, thus enjoying 33 years of retirement.

He was not one to sit still and so he pursued travel and collecting as hobbies. He would scope out a garage or estate sale or a flea market or antique store to procure his treasures. Often then he turned around and resold them or shared them with special friends in his life. He also remarried and it was to the widow of his best friend. This marriage to Wanda Theil was on New Year's Eve 1993 until her death in 2012.

Jim is also survived by his stepchildren, Michelle and David Lozier; and stepgrandchildren, Kevin and Stephen survive.

A stepson, Brian, preceded Wanda in death. Wanda enjoyed the travel also and so together, they explored the United States and Canada.

After Wanda passed, Jim moved to Jonesville, Michigan, and managed fairly well until his 93rd birthday at which time he sadly had to relinquish his driving privileges, his beloved dog, Rhett, and his home to move to Findlay to be closer to his brothers and their families. He never allowed us to forget his love for the state of Michigan and thus is being interred beside his first love and mother of his children, Mary Post.

Jim was also preceded in death by his siblings, Pauline Post and Richard Garr, Dorothy Post and Paul Horvath, Robert and Shirley Post, Evelyn Post and Richard Townsend, Charles and Jackie Post, and Therese Post Couling.

Jim is also survived by his siblings, Jeanette Post Wesholski, Linda Post Richmond, Larry and Mary Post, Helen Post Sproessig, and George and Cheryl Post.

Jim's graveside service will be 11:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 15, 2023, at Sacred Heart Calvary Cemetery on the south side of US127, Hudson, Michigan. Father Todd Koenigsknecht, Pastor, will officiate. A luncheon and celebration of Jim's life will continue downtown Hudson at one of his favorite restaurants following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests having Mass said on his behalf at your local catholic church or a monetary donation to your local Humane Society as he loved his dogs so very much and treated them with utmost love and care.

To Jim's Family ~ I worked for several years with Jim, in The Purchasing Dept, before he retired. He was always the sweetest most kindest man you could ever meet. I remember working for him doing his filing for the Palisades Plant Project. I used to love the aroma of whatever he was smoking in his pipe each day. I remember how loving and caring he was for his first wife during her illness. I highly respected him. I ran into him a few years back over at Ferguson Corner when he was picking up some Chinese food to go. We had a nice talk that day and he was still as sharp as can be. I am so sorry to read that he has passed, but I know he had a very fulfilled life. He truly was one of the good ones. Please know I will keep your family in my prayers in the difficult days ahead. Rest in Peace Jim, you deserve it.

So sorry to hear of Jim's passing. I worked with Jim and Malcolm in the purchasing dept. at Consumers before being transferred to the Whiting Plant in Erie. My wife worked at Consumers also & knew Jim.
May he rest in peace. Our deepest sympathy to the family.

Condolences to the Post Family, especially Larry. Jim and I crossed paths several times. My first memory is when Jim worked at Mingus' gas station in Hudson one afternoon he sold me a jack knife for 25 cents. In later years we both worked at Consumers. He also stopped and gave me a ride home as i was hitch hiking home from U of M one time.
God rest his soul.
