James Kirk Obituary

James Forrest "Captain" Kirk

James Forrest "Captain" Kirk, 72, of Findlay, passed away Thursday, June 29, 2023, at Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay.

Jim was born July 4, 1950, in Bucyrus, to Donald Dwight and Gretchen Louise (Forrest) Kirk.

Jim was a member of the last graduating class of Bloomville High School in 1969. He then obtained his Bachelor Degree from The University of Findlay and then his MBA from Bowling Green State University, both of which he took pride in putting himself through school while working full-time. He worked for Whirlpool Corporation for 41 years, as well as Jeffrey's Antique Mall and Kirk Chiropractic.

Jim had a passionate zeal for life and those that he shared it with. Jim married Georgia Faye Thompson in 1968 and would later divorce. He then married Linda "Tena" Madison of Findlay on May 15, 1976, and she survives. His quest in life was to make anyone he encountered laugh through his "dad jokes" which were 75 percent not so great and only 25 percent good. In his younger days, Jim enjoyed playing rugby. He was an avid skier, having skied the Swiss Alps twice. He also greatly enjoyed playing pool, playing cards, and backgammon. He was a music enthusiast and especially loved to listen to Pink Floyd. He enjoyed meeting people from around the world and even learned to throw a boomerang through his friends from Turkey. He participated in the Hancock 100 multiple times and participated in numerous mini-triathlons. More than anything, he loved to entertain friends and family, especially his granddaughters. To no surprise, Jim loved Star Trek and was able to attend the 50th anniversary celebration and meet William Shatner himself!

In his retirement, Jim enjoyed collecting little figures and miniatures, creating backgrounds and scenery, and then creating stories for each on his Facebook page, much to the delight of his many followers. He loved his dog, Summer Breeze, greatly, as well as Tena's 13-year-old cat, Wizard.

Tena remembers "Captain Kirk" as the finest, funniest person that she ever met, someone who would give anyone the shirt off of his back. He lived his life to the fullest and will be dearly missed by his family and many, many friends.

Jim is survived by his wife, Tena of Findlay; son, Dr. Mark J. (Suzanne) Kirk of Findlay; two granddaughters, Madison Jae Kirk of Columbus and Morgan Marie Kirk of Findlay; brother-in-law, Robert C. Madison of San Antonio, Texas; and first wife, Georgia Thompson-Orians of Findlay.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Michael Lynn Kirk.

At Jim's request, there will be no visitation or services at this time.

A celebration of life will take place at a date which will be announced later.

The last time I saw Jim was at our Bloomville H.S. 50th class reunion. It had been many years but he was still the same outgoing, witty and genuine guy he was in school. RIP, my friend
