James Compton Obituary
James Verdette Compton, 92, of rural Findlay, died at 3:57 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at Bridge Hospice in Findlay. He was born to the late James Grover Compton and Roxy Marie (Bracy) Compton on May 2, 1933, in Gilboa, Ohio.
On December 16, 1955, he married Sue Peterman, and this past December, they celebrated 70 years of marriage. He was a 1951 graduate of Liberty High School and served in the United States Army and later in the National Guard for over 10 years, having served in the Korean War. He is a member of the AMVETS, VFW, DAV, and Legion. Being a true outdoorsman, he enjoyed house boating on Lake Cumberland for 51 years. He loved hunting in Wyoming for deer and antelope.
He was preceded in death by his two sons, Michael D. Compton and James D. Compton; sisters, Eunice Rutter, Sylvia Berger, Vivian Burns, and Sarah Grubb.
He is survived by his wife, Sue, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 12-2 p.m. Monday, June 2, 2025, at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME in Findlay, where funeral services will be at the conclusion of visitation at 2 p.m. Pastor Cathy Davis will officiate and interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad. Memorials may be given to Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad or a charity of the donors choice.

Jim was so nice to me when I first met him at Cooper. I didn´t know who he was at first, but every time I saw him . I thought, that guy sure reminds me of my husband David. At that time, Dave was serving in Vietnam. How surprised I was and pleased that he was a close cousin. Always smiling and usually with a cigar. May God bless and comfort you Sue.

I was married to David Ernest, his cousin. Dave was in Vietnam when I first started working at the Lab for Cooper. I would see him walking into work and he looked so much like my Dave! I was surprised when my MIL, Juanita introduced us!
Always so very nice. I am so very sorry about your loss. What a blessing to have celebrated your 70th anniversary!
