Harriet Quinlan Obituary

Harriet Miller Quinlan

As a young girl growing up in the hills of western Pennsylvania, Harriet Quinlan tossed a whole fall's crop of pumpkins down the outhouse just to hear the splash they made. After that incident, she always had to sit next to her father so he could keep an eye on her at the dinner table filled with her four brothers and two sisters, including her twin brother, Hubert (Tony). Harriet passed away Thursday, July 21, 2022, at the age of 95 after a life well lived.

Harriet was born April 18, 1927, to the late Horatio and Lulu (Lohr) Miller. She is survived by her son, Patrick (Rhonda) Quinlan; daughters, Jenny DeClercq and Rebecca Quinlan (Marvin Druker); sister, Marjorie Bell; numerous nieces and nephews; five grandchildren, Jeff, Peter, and Hannah Quinlan, Caitlin DeClercq Abelli (Jeff) and Dylan DeClercq; and three great-grandsons, Julian, Mason, and Jaden. She was married to James Leo Quinlan for 56 years before his passing in 2007. Five of her siblings and their spouses predeceased her, Hubert (Mary) Miller, Audrice (John) Hutson, Lester (Alberta) Miller, Paul (Helen) Miller, and John (Jo) Miller; as well as in-laws, Betty Quinlan and Jerry (Jean) Quinlan.

As a member of the greatest generation, she was active in the War effort as a "Rosie the Riveter" making grenade pins and delousing bags. After moving to Findlay, she worked as a telephone operator asking the perennial question "Number please?" before her marriage and family rearing. A member of College First Church of God since 1950, she was active in a number of groups within the church, including the infamous Christmas Bazaar which she organized with longtime friend Marty Fish. She was an avid hiker and biker well into her 70s and enjoyed biking in Europe and the U.S. with a group led by Emma Mae Grey. For the last eight years, she has wintered on Cape San Blas, Florida, enjoying the view of the Gulf from her balcony, Sunday music concerts, and Tuesdays at Two Lectures at the Library. Her life was enriched by family, music and laughs, but mostly by dessert - Dietches' Butter Pecan Ice Cream was her favorite - but she never met a pie or piece of fudge or candy she didn't like.

Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at College First Church of God, 1100 N. Main St., Findlay, with a funeral to follow. Pastor Brandon Kelly will be officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to College First Church of God or Tuesdays at Two, in care of Corinne Costin Gibson Public Library, 110 Library Drive, Port St. Joe, Florida, 32456.
