Glenn Chaffee Obituary

Glenn A. Chaffee

Glenn Albert Chaffee, 97, of Findlay and formerly of El Cajon, California, passed into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2024.

He was born Sept. 22, 1926, in Alhambra, California, to Fred and Mildred (Tinkle) Chaffee. He married Rachael Carrie Ellison on Nov. 17, 1945, and she preceded him in death Nov. 14, 2012, three days before their 67th wedding anniversary. He suffered many years with Parkinson's Disease.

Glenn is survived by his daughter, Nancy Henson of Findlay; son, Glenn R (Debbie) Chaffee of Windsor, Colorado; seven grandchildren, James (Jody) Henson of Medina, Tina (Aaron) Henderson of Findlay, Matthew (Carissa) Henson of Jacksonville, Florida, Carrie (Jason) Kibble of Findlay, Greg (Whitney) Henson of Independence, Kentucky, Travis (Stephanie Stanley) Chaffee of Fort Collins, Colorado, and Clay (Lisa) Chaffee of Loveland, Colorado; 16 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Rick Henson; brother and sister-in-law, Gordon and Sharon Chaffee; sister- and brother-in-law, LaVerne and Everett Collord; sister-in-law, Maggie Latimer; and brother-in-law, Richard Ellison.

Glenn was a multi-faceted guy. He had a BS in Engineering from California Institute of Technology, MA in Ministry from Pasadena College, MA in Psychology from San Francisco State, and PhD in Education from Michigan State University with a concentration in Clinical Psychology. He was an ordained minister in the Church of the Nazarene faithfully, pastoring churches in California and Michigan and later became a Clinical Psychologist. He was a private and small commercial pilot, making many lifesaving flights to deliver transplant organs, flight instructor, hot air balloon pilot, and had many other avocational projects. He also ran many marathons.

He was an U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

The family would like to thank Birchaven Village for the excellent care he received over the last 2½ years, especially Dr. Manuel, nurses Callie, Krista, Misty, Elsie, and Payton, and many others as well as the many aides that were such a great help to him. And Kathy, the Activities Director, who led the great games of Bingo that he so enjoyed.

Visitation will be 3-6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26, 2024, at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME. Glenn's celebration of life service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2024, at the funeral home with Rev. Richard Hiltibran officiating. Burial will be Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego, California, with military honors, where he will join his beloved wife.

Donations in Glenn's name may be made to Parkinson's Foundation at Parkinson.org or charity of the donor's choice.
