Gerald E. "Jerry" Ice
Gerald "Jerry" Ice, 89, of Findlay, passed away peacefully after a short illness Friday, November 7, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born to the late Albert and Magdalene (Glotzbach) Ice, September 29, 1936.
Jerry was the beloved husband of Bonnie (Arend) Ice, with whom he shared a wonderful life filled with love, faith, and adventure. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ellen Ice, with whom he built a foundation of family, love, and cherished memories.
He was a devoted father to Andrew (Jane) Ice and Matthew (Kim) Ice; and a loving stepfather to David (Jody) Bixler and Mathew (Angie) Bixler, whom he welcomed into his heart as his own.
Jerry was a proud grandfather to Jonah Ice, Benjamin Ice, Caelan Ice, Jake (Katlyn) Bixler, Hannah (Matthew) Alspach, Luke (Morgan) Bixler, Hunter Bixler, Michael Bixler, Madison Bixler, Blake (Amy) Wilson, and Grant Wilson; and a cherished great-grandfather to Cooper Alspach, Ezra Bixler, Lilah Alspach, and Viola Bixler. Each one brought tremendous joy to his life.
Born in Topeka, Kansas, Jerry grew up in a lively home with seven brothers and sisters, Carolyn (Francis) May - deceased, William (Marge) Ice, Theresa - deceased (Joe) Boley, Rita (David) Johnson, Sister Joan Ice, Thomas Ice, and Catherine (Alan - deceased) Fuller.
Following high school, Jerry attended Rockhurst University in Kansas City, shaping the foundation for his professional path. After college, he proudly served in the U.S. Army, demonstrating dedication, discipline, and service to his country. After serving his country, he attended Canisius University in Buffalo, New York, earning his master's degree in chemistry.
Jerry's career later took him to Findlay, where he raised his sons and built meaningful community ties, including at St. Michael's Catholic Church, where he served in many leadership roles. After retiring, Jerry continued to make a meaningful impact by working with Findlay City Schools. Jerry was known for his kindness, humor, and steady presence. Jerry's interests included a love of photography, a love of golf, which he often played with his sons or his brother Bill Ice, and playing with friends in a senior golf league.
In his later years, Jerry found renewed joy and companionship with Bonnie. Together they traveled the world, embracing new experiences and cultures. Among their travels, his most cherished destination was Ireland, a place of deep spiritual significance for him.
Jerry will be remembered for his warm heart, generous spirit, unwavering faith, and steadfast devotion to family. His legacy lives on in the love he gave, the lives he touched, and the memories he created.
Calling hours will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Kirkpatrick-Behnke Funeral Home, 500 Lima Avenue, Findlay, OH 45840, with a rosary to begin at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, November 14, 2025, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic, Downtown Chapel. Committal service and burial will follow at St. Michael Cemetery, Durrell Street, Findlay, OH, 45840.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Michael's Catholic Church in his honor, including Masses in his honor.
