She was born April 30, 1929, in Pine Knot, Kentucky, to George & Nannie Bell Swain.
She was united in marriage to the "love of her life," Gene Harold Thompson, February 14, 1947. They were married for 78 years. A marriage of strong faith, love, caring, and compassion passed on to their children.
Georgia is survived by sons, Tom (Carol) Thompson, Steve (Gerry) Thompson, and David (Cindy) Thompson, all of Findlay; She was a proud grandma to Karyn (Tracy) Rayl, Desery (Shane) Theil, Beau (Ashley Vanderveer) Thompson, and Travis Thompson; great-grandmother to Savannah, Makenzie (Caleb) Berens, Kennedy, Sebastian, and Hayden; and great-great-grandmother to Isaac and Cambria.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Thompson; sisters, Vaddi Inman, Mae Laws, and Pernie Raines, all from Sidney Ohio. She also had two brothers who passed away at a young age during the flu epidemic.
Georgia helped with their family grocery store and post office in Swain, Kentucky, at a very young age. And loved to share stories of those days with others. She then moved to Sidney, Ohio, where she began working for Stolle Manufacturing in the office. During her time in Sidney, she was noticed by Gene singing in the church choir, it was love at first sight. After getting married, they moved to Findlay, where she enjoyed selling jewelry at Britts Department Store in the Findlay Mall, Osterman's, and Michael Eller Jewelers.
She was a lifelong member of Upper Room Church of God, A devout Christian, and a proud devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and friend.
She traveled to Liberia, West Africa, where Gene took a position as a Railroad Train Dispatcher for Liberia Mining Co. The family lived there for two years. During that time, she traveled to Frankfurt, Germany, to be with their first-born granddaughter.
Georgia and Gene traveled throughout Europe on their return trip home.
Family gatherings were a special blessing. She enjoyed holiday meals, birthday celebrations, graduations, weddings, and grandchildren's sporting events.
During vacations with family and friends, she kept a detailed journal to remember their travels and created several photo albums as a special gift to share throughout generations.
Georgia looked forward to the weekly Bible Study at their home. She always made sure to share a special treat (usually something chocolate), and everyone was welcome to attend, a woman of deep faith.
Georgia was sweet and caring to all she met. She always helped in any way if anyone needed a hand or someone to talk to. She had a gentle and quiet spirit. She will be truly missed but we know that she is with the "love of her life" and in God's hands.
