George Thompson Obituary

George G. Thompson III

George G. Thompson III, born in Wisconsin in 1951, died Sunday, Oct. 30, 2022, in Naples, Florida.

George's wife, Leslee, and his daughter, April, survive. George is also survived by his brother, David, and his wife, Pat, and their children, Brian and Eilish; brother-in-law, Tom Flautt; niece, Sonja; nephew, Eric; stepson, Ryan; grandsons, Landon and Alexander; April's mom, Pam; and the Waaland family, to which he maintained fond connections.

George was preceded in death by his parents, George and Marion; and sister, Diane.

In his own words, "Musician, florist, actor, attorney, artist, Father Christmas and most importantly Wood County Park District leader for 24 years." George was controversial, but his attitude was that if you never take chances you never will know what you could have won.

His life reflected chances and would hope that children and their families would take a moment to look up from their phones and discover 'bright moments' together."

Visitation will be 4-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2022, at Thompson Stone Hall (Otsego Park), followed by a brief celebration of life, where all who knew and loved him will have a moment to share their remembrances.

Arrangements are being handled by SMITH-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, North Baltimore.

In lieu of flowers, George requested donations to Wood County Park District. Online condolences may be expressed at www.smithcrates.com.

He was a funny guy with rich laughter. He also was a loving, fun-loving father. Rest In Peace George. I´m so glad you found Leslee who brought joy to the last chapters of your life.

As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends. Please take comfort in the words found at 2nd Thessalonians 2:16,17.

Someday I´ll wish upon a star wake up where the clouds are far behind me. Somewhere over the Rainbow. Always think of you when I hear that song. Rip my friend.

I will always remember the drive to Detroit to go to the Grande Ballroom with George and Dave. Careening down the highway in the Birdmobile. Sad news that the Toad is no longer with us physically, but the memories remain and keep him alive in my mind. Condolences to the family.

I am so sorry to hear of George's passing. He and I were close friends at Findlay High School (OH) and at Ohio State University and beyond. He could always make me laugh, and was a joy to be around. The term "lively" doesn't begin to describe him. He will be missed.
