Freda A. Billock Kauffman
Freda A. Billock Kauffman, 85, of Carey, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at 5 p.m. Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay.
One of nine children, Freda was born July 7, 1938, in Carey, to Peter J. and Stella Rose (Boes) Neiderkohr. She married Richard E. "Dick" Billock on May 2, 1959, at Our Lady of Consolation, Carey. From that union, they had three daughters, Melinda Faber of Carey, Marsha Billock (deceased, 2023), and Mia (Roger) Karcher of Upper Sandusky, five grandchildren, Matthew (Bryn) Billock, Mason (Kim) Billock, Kane Faber, Kaleb (Heather) Faber, and Becka (Brandon) Gebauer, and 10 great-grandchildren, Reece, Delaney, Teagan, Haidyn, Benjamin, Keegan, Everly, Sophia, Harper, and Hudson.
Her husband, Dick, died Feb. 19, 2005. Later, Freda met up with a classmate, Mervin E. Kauffman. They married July 11, 2008. Along with the marriage came four stepchildren, Kari Anne (Brian) Cupp of Arlington, Stephen E. Kauffman of Columbus, Michelle L. (John) Hoskinson of Hamilton, and Gregory P. Kauffman of Cincinnati, eight stepgrandchildren, Katie (Brennan), Brianna, John Richard, Spencer (Courtney), Jamie (Zack), Gary (Julia), Carter, Ethan, and Isabella, and five stepgreat-grandchildren, Gladys, Maryjane, Sawyer, Wesley, and Amelia.
She is also survived by two sisters, Betty Lou Frankart of Powell and Jean (Richard) Corron of Miamisburg; brother, Wade Neiderkohr; and many nieces and nephews.
Freda was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Ardene Peiffer, Velma (infant), and Wanda Orians; three brothers, Harold, Glenn, and Robert (infant); son-in-law, Jeff Faber; and stepgrandson, Adison.
Freda was a 1956 graduate of Carey High School. While raising her daughters, she worked at the former Mape's Pharmacy in Carey for 30 years. She later spent 18 years working for Dr. Ogborn Dentistry, D.D.S. in Carey and retired July 14, 2009.
A lifelong member of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey, Freda showed her love of the church in many ways. Not only did she attend Mass daily, she served on the Church Pastoral Council and the O.L.C. School council, was a Eucharistic Minister, and member of the Rosary Altar Society. She, along with Merv, enjoyed volunteering at Fr. Paul's Bakery to help raise money for different project within the church.
Visitation for family and friends will be 4-7 p.m. Friday, April 26, 2024, at Stombaugh-Batton and Snyder Funeral Home, Carey. Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey, with the Rev. Tom Merrill OFM Conv. officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Carey.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Freda's memory to Our Lady of Consolation School or Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and sent to the funeral home.
