Douglas Wickard Obituary

Douglas Jay Wickard

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Douglas Jay Wickard, 66, of North Baltimore. Doug passed away peacefully Friday, January 31, 2025, after a nearly three-year battle with ALS, with his loving family by his side.

Born August 21, 1958, in Bowling Green to Tommie and Margaret (Mathias) Wickard. He was a 1977 graduate of North Baltimore High School. Doug was known for his hard work, quick wit and willingness to lend a helping hand. Even in the face of his illness, he remained positive and optimistic.

He is survived by his spouse, Sherry (Clark) of 42 years; children, Heather (Tyler) Fremont of Troy, Jayson Wickard of Columbus, Jaymie Wickard of North Baltimore; brother, Terry (Doni) Wickard of North Baltimore; and grandchildren, Waylon, Winston and Weslyn Fremont. Doug will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever be a part of our lives and our community.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Vicki Wickard; and brother, Steve Wickard.

Doug owned and operated Wickard Brothers Construction from 1984-2018. In addition, he worked for Plast-O-Meric from 1989-2003 and The Village of North Baltimore from 2007-2021, when he retired. Doug was a member of Sons of the American Legion Post No.539 and the F.O.E No.2633.

A visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday, February 7, 2025, at SMITH-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, North Baltimore. A service to celebrate Doug's life will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 8, 2025, at SMITH-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, where additional visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service. Pastor Jim Baney will officiate, and a private burial will take place later.

The family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to an ALS-related charity or Bridge Home Health and Hospice to honor his memory and support the fight against ALS. Doug's family would like to express a special thank you to Ashley and Tiffany from Bridge Hospice.
