Donald E. "Don" Bucher
Donald E. "Don" Bucher, 74, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Aug. 11, 2024, surrounded by family and friends.
He was born Dec. 17, 1949, in Bluffton, to John and Thelma (Bridenbaugh) Bucher. He graduated from Pandora-Gilboa High School in 1968 and earned a master's degree at The Ohio State University. While taking Ice Skating 101 at OSU, Don met Cindy (Valentine) Bucher when she fell on the ice. He picked her up and they were together ever since. Don and Cindy were married June 12, 1971. They had three children, Jeremy Bucher, Jill Folk, and Kristen King.
Don was a Vocational Agriculture teacher and FFA advisor for 32 years at Leipsic High School, Paint Valley High School, and Teays Valley High School. He was a 4-H advisor for his children while raising sheep and was on the Pickaway County Fair Board. He was a long-time member of Emmett Chapel where he served countless hours with the congregation he loved. His faith in the Lord was seen in his service to others. He found great joy in attending every sporting event, play, and activity for his children and grandchildren. He planned many road trips and adventures with his family and friends. During his retirement years, he enjoyed traveling to National Parks, hiking, woodworking, camping, golfing trips, collecting coins, and playing cards. He was often found at Mount Oval Historical House and Farm taking care of the grounds as the Farm Manager. He was devoted to serving his family and community. Don's love for the Lord and others was evident by how quickly and passionately he sought to serve with his time, gifts and talents. His presence and care for others will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Cindy; children, Jeremy Bucher, Jill (Justin) Folk, and Kristen (Jamie) King; grandchildren, Kailen, Eliana, and Matias King, and Jonah, Josephine, and Jayla Folk; brothers, David (Tracy) Bucher and Brad (Bev) Bucher; beloved aunt, Dot; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, John and Thelma (Bridenbaugh) Bucher.
Don's celebration of life will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, 2024, at Emmett Chapel. A receiving line and reception will immediately follow in the Fellowship Hall at the church. Don's graveside service will be at a later date.
