Dickie L. "Dick" Powell

Dickie L. "Dick" Powell, 92, of Findlay, a Korean War veteran, peacefully passed at 1:44 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, 2024, at his home where he was surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Dick was born June 25, 1931, in Hancock County. He married Virginia Vanvo and they later divorced. He then married Charlotte Arnold and they later divorced. He then married Vivian Brown and they later divorced. He then married Janet Henschen and they later divorced.

He is survived by his children, Rick Powell, Dale Powell, Kathie Hamilton (Mark), Nile (Bob) Powell, Rhonda George, James (Lorena) Powell, John Henschen, Tammy (Jeff) Stahl, and Cindy Long; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; sister, Nancy Powell; and godson, Michael Sowers.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Harriett (Nusser) Powell; second mother, Mary (Crozier) Powell; siblings, Bob Fleming, Toby Fleming, Nell Woodruff, twin brother Dave Powell, Saundra Franklin, and Sharon Dietsch; two sons-in-law, Arron George and William Hamilton; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Dick attended Van Buren High School, where he played on the football team and for the Findlay Merchants team. Dick proudly served his country in U.S. Army during the Korean War. He loved the outdoors, whether it was fishing, trapping, or hunting. He also enjoyed spending time with his nephew, John Woodruff, and close friends, Eugene Underferth, Michael Sowers, Jimmy Rader, and Paul Hamlin driving around Hancock County looking for deer, drinking coffee, and going to garage sales. Dick was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Dick's true love was his family where he genuinely enjoyed coaching Midget football. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews play a variety of sports throughout the years. He also enjoyed an ice cream cone with his beloved sister, Nancy Powell, at Dietsch Brothers ice cream store. Dick will be missed, but will always be remembered.
