Diane Albert Obituary

Diane Elizabeth Albert

Diane Elizabeth Albert, PhD, 65, of Los Ranchos de Albuquerque, New Mexico, died tragically Friday, Nov. 25, 2022, at her home.

She was born Sept. 1, 1957, in Kenton, to the late Everett and Marilyn Albert. Her husband would have wanted his name to be mentioned.

Diane is survived by her sisters, Sharon (Jerry) Ault of Kenton and Jean Wichele of Greenacres, Florida; brother, Jeremy (Shellie) Albert of Forest; nephew, Brandon Wichele; nieces, Natalie Wichele, Miranda Albert, and Shelby Ault; and others.

She was preceded in death by a nephew, Bradley Albert.

Diane graduated valedictorian from Riverdale High School in 1975. She received her BA in Mathematics Education from The Ohio State University in 1979 and a BS in Metallurgical Engineering from The Ohio State University, cum laude, in 1982. She was a Materials Engineer at Stone & Webster Engineering Corporation, St. Francisville, Louisiana, River Bend Nuclear Plant Construction Site from 1982-84. She then enrolled at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she received a Master of Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering in 1987, and a PhD Materials Science and Engineering in 1991.

From 1991-92, she worked at Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble, Grenoble, France, as a Post-Doctoral Fellow funded by the French Ministère de l'Education. She then worked at Los Alamos National Laboratory in Los Alamos, New Mexico, from 1993-2004. In May 2007, she graduated from University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, with her Juris Doctorate in law. She practiced as an Associate Attorney at Peacock, Myers, P.C. She then opened her own law practice, specializing in intellectual property law. She was elected as Municipal Judge of Los Ranchos in 2021. She was currently taking classes in French and Accounting Statistics at UNM. She always said that you are never too old to continue your education.

She received many awards in her career, some of which include the Women in STEM Pioneer Award for Engineering from The Ohio State University in May 2007, Distinguished Alumnus Award from The Ohio State University Department of Materials Science and Engineering in 2002, and New Mexico Governor's Award for NM Outstanding Women in 1996, 2000, and 2003.

Diane was an avid bicyclist, National Park visitor, and lover of her pugs, chickens, ducks, and rabbits. She loved to watch Jeopardy. She was an Ohio farm girl and so proud of her family and her rural upbringing. She will be missed greatly by so many who knew and loved her.

A celebration of life will be 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, 2023, at Kenton Eagles #2163. A memorial service took place in December in Albuquerque. She will be buried with her family at Salem Cemetery, Mifflin Twp., Wyandot County.

We are friends of Diane. She worked at Los Alamos with my daughter Therese who has also passed a little less than 20 years ago. She visited our home and became friends with my daughter therese's son and daughter. Diane was always sending post cards to her son from where ever she was and my grandaughter and her would email or text each other. I last saw her at a senior center presentation in Espanola where we live and she was there with several attorney volunteers to serve as resource information to our seniors. We spoke and she asked me for the children. She had worked on getting my grandaughter into the Lab to work in her area but for some reason the student work situation was not completed. She was near and dear to my grandchildren and My granddaughter last spoke to Diane to wish her a happy birthday not that long ago. We are all saddened because of the tragedy that happened. We feel your loss as I lost my two eldest daughters and I know that Diane stayed in touch with my grandchildren after my daughter passed on. May her beautiful soul rest in peace. We tried to find an address to send our condolences and I finally found this site. May god bless all of you.
