David Wells Obituary

David Paul Wells

David Paul Wells, 71, of Findlay, passed away at his residence Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at 2:35 p.m., surrounded by his loving wife and family.

Dave was born July 7, 1954, in Findlay, to the late Paul Wells &and Etta (Perkins) Jackson. After graduating from high school, Dave proudly supported his country in the United States Navy, where he served as a postal clerk 3rd Class. There, he earned a National Defense Service Medal, a patch for 1000 hours on a helicopter, and a love of travel. Dave married Susan (Baker) Echols, and they later divorced. He married Patricia Niese, June 23, 2015, and together they formed a loving blended family. Pat survives.

Also surviving are his children, Jen Chortie and Jackie (Nick) Schroeder; stepchildren, Renee Ickes and Sarah (Justin) Keiser; grandchildren, Jacey Chortie, Jake (Sydney) Chortie, Lexi Bahn, and Brady Bahn; stepgrandchildren, Izzabell Ickes and William Ickes; seven great-grandchildren; and siblings, Diane Wickman, Pamela Howard, Randy (Tammy) Wells, Ronnie (Patty) Wells, and Jodie (Jim) Kinder.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Karen Davidson.

Dave worked for Ball Metal as chief store clerk. He retired after 38 years. Dave was a member of Moose and AMVETS. Through the Navy, he traveled to 26 countries. He shared his love of travel with Pat, including Florida and their favorite road trip to Utah.

Dave was full of life. He was a true outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting. He was an excellent marksman. Dave was also a self-taught jack-of-all-trades. He enjoyed making Pat "anything" she wanted with his master woodworking skills. He also remodeled many houses, including his own. Dave loved sports, especially baseball. He played as pitcher, and had a scout watch him play a game in high school. He then played four years in the Navy as pitcher, in which his team went undefeated. Dave was also a jokester who loved to smile and laugh. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life honoring Dave's life will be from 12:30-3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 1, 2026, at Findlay Moose Lodge 698, 1028 W Main Cross St. #2421, Findlay. COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay, is assisting with arrangements.

Yesterday

We worked with Dave at Ball. He always had a great attitude. I would take samples to the store room to be sent to different vendors. He was alway willing to be helpful. Sometimes even had a joke to tell you. I know God is holding him in his loving arms. Saying welcome home my beloved son. Job well done.
