David Thomas Obituary
David Thomas, 80, of Findlay, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2024, in the early morning.
He was born May 5, 1944, in Findlay, to Dean and Doris (Riter) Thomas.
David graduated from Vanlue High School in 1962. He worked with area farmers in his teenage years and was working for Remington Arms in Findlay before going into U.S. Army. He was stationed in Germany for 18 months, later finding out that he was stationed fairly close to where both sides of the family immigrated from in Mannheim, Germany. David made rank E-5.
After returning from Germany, David started working at Whirlpool. He retired from Whirlpool in 2004.
David was a member of Findlay Bible Methodist Church and served as trustee, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, building committee, and did maintenance. David led services for 38 years at Palmer Home.
David's hobbies were electronic repairs, as well as restoring and rebuilding John Deere Tractors.
David is survived by his wife, Ruth; two sons, Duane (Regina) Thomas of Findlay and Daniel (Tina) Thomas of Arlington; two daughters, Teresa (Jerry) Case of Newcastle, Indiana, and Sarah (Richard) Hutchison of Liberty, South Carolina; 11 grandchildren, Kaitlynn (Jacob) Taylor, Caleb Case, Seth Thomas, Simon Thomas, Samuel Thomas, Callasandra Thomas, Lauren Thomas, Ashlynn Thomas, Bradley Thomas, Joshua Thomas, and Josiah Thomas; one great-grandson arriving in January, 2025; two brothers, Mark (Ruth) Thomas of Vanlue and Orlan (Sheila) Thomas of Port St. Lucie, Florida; sister, Carolyn (Tim) Balty of Fairbanks, Alaska; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dean and Doris Thomas; and first wife, Patricia.
Visitation will be 1-3 and 5-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, 2024, at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay, and 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024, until the time of David's funeral at 11 a.m. at Findlay Bible Methodist Church with Pastor Travis Johnson and Dr. Richard Hutchison officiating. Burial will follow at Lee Cemetery, where full military rites will be performed by Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad.
Memorial contributions may be made to Findlay Bible Methodist Church.
