David Hunter Obituary

David L. Hunter

David L. Hunter, 82, of Fostoria, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at Bridge Hospice Center, Bowling Green.

David was born Aug. 1, 1941, in rural Carey, to Blaine Hunter and Eleanore L. (Phillips) Hunter. David graduated from Findlay High School and began a 40-year career as a meat cutter with Food Town.

While working at Food Town, David met Elaine Downard and after some convincing, on David's behalf, the two started dating and were married April 15, 1993. David and Elaine enjoyed visiting Florida and spending time at their family's property in Spring City, Tennessee. They could often be found riding around town on their Harley's, enjoying an ice cream cone, or watching trains at The Iron Triangle in Fostoria.

Never being able to sit still, David enjoyed driving truck for Try Hours, Inc and Blanchard Valley Industries. He was an avid collector of model trains and toy farm tractors. He also enjoyed working on classic cars and could be found feeding the birds.

Being a Christian, David attended several churches over the years and was the last living founding member of Ridge Chapel Church of the Nazarene.

David will be missed by his wife, Elaine of Fostoria; children, John (Kristen) Hunter of Findlay and Cindy (Marv) Young of Defiance; adopted son, Matt Hunter; stepson, Jon Marshall; son-in-law, Troy Recker; grandchildren, Blaine and Lexi Hunter, Sami Phillips, Mady (Mitch) Frilling, Emma (Dan) Purtee, and Jordan, Addisyn, Rylan, and Jayme Marshall; great-grandchildren, Brylee, Phoebe, and Landon; sister, Anita (David) Rickle; first wife, Sue Yoakum Cataline; and second wife, Linda Fry Aukerman.

He was preceded in death by his father, Blaine Hunter; mother and stepfather, Eleanore (Kenny) Monday; daughter, Cathy Recker; and stepdaughter, Jamie Marshall.

Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2024, and 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at Stombaugh-Batton & Snyder Funeral Home, 225 West Findlay Street, Carey. Graveside services will follow Tuesday at Knollcrest Cemetery near Arcadia.

Donations may be made in David's honor to Hancock County Humane Society, 4550 Fostoria Ave., Findlay.

David Dubocq

April 27, 2024

Dave Hunter what a great person he was, my mother Margaret Dubocq thought so very much of him. When we would go into Foodtown, he would be one of the first people that she would look up and make sure he was there and he was having a good day.

He did a lot for our family kept food on the table. He was just a friendly guy and always had a smile on his face and genuinely wanted to know how you were doing this man made a difference! Someone that I will never forget thank you David... My wife, Audrey HOEPF From Carey also new David, She stated how friendly he always was.
