David Higley Obituary
David Nelson Higley, 83, of Findlay, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2024, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 12, 1940, near Van Buren, the son of Cecil and Dorotha (Gallant) Higley. He married Betty L. Riegle on June 23, 1962, and she passed away Nov. 1, 1995. He loved his family deeply and would do anything for them.
David is survived by his children, Lorie (Don) Beck of Findlay and John Higley of Findlay (Brooke Limpf); grandchildren, Donald (Shannon) Beck of Findlay, Cassandra Hickey (Caleb Swartzmiller) of Findlay, Matthew (Mirranda) Beck of Kenton, and Dottie (Jacob) Thomas of Findlay; great-grandchildren, David, Fletcher, Harper, Betty, Beau, and Cayson; sisters, Sarah Prater of Findlay and Nancy (Kenny) Searles of Findlay; sisters-in-law, Mary Jane Coppler of Carey and Rita Riegle of Oregon, Ohio; and brothers-in-law, Bruce (Pam) Riegle of Wharton, Paul (Laurie) Riegle of Hillsdale, Michigan, and Jim (Jodie) Riegle of Carey.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Laura Hawkins; and brothers-in-law, Lowell Prater, Roy Riegle, Everett Riegle, and Wayne Riegle Sr.
In 1958, David graduated from Findlay High School and he proudly served his country in U.S. Navy from 1958-1961. Later, he was employed as an auto mechanic at a number of local dealerships. During the 1960s and 1970s, David was a sprint car owner and push truck driver at Millstream Speedway. In the 1970s, he also coached a Young Miss softball team. David retired from LaRiche Chevrolet in 2002, but he continued to work in parts delivery for LaRiche until May, 2024.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12, 2024, at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay. David's funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2024, at the funeral home with the Rev. Joe Rhea officiating. Military graveside honors will be performed by Hancock County Veterans Squad will follow at Bechtel Cemetery near Van Buren.
