David Castner Obituary

David Castner

David Castner, 78, beloved father, grandfather and friend, was called to his eternal resting place Friday, Dec. 1, 2023.

He entered this world May 23, 1945, in Battle Creek, Michigan, born to Earl and Neola Castner.

David is survived by his son, Daniel (Megan) Castner; daughter, Brandy (Drew) Bowerman; grandchildren, Alaina Castner, Anthony (Hillary) Kaufman, Karissa (Tim) Robinson, and Chase (Shelby) Bowerman; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Neola Castner; father, Earl Castner; brother, Norman Castner; and wife, Shirley Henry-Castner.

David served in U.S. Army from 1964-1977, reaching the rank of Sergeant. He was a decorated Vietnam veteran who loved to boast that he was the only cook with top secret security clearance. After his honorable discharge in 1977, he continued to serve in Army National Guard until 1990. David was a loyal member of VFW Post No. 5645 of Findlay.

David spent many years camping in Van Buren, where he made many life-long friends. When he wasn't traveling around to flea markets or watching Westerns with the volume on 90, David could be found socializing with neighbors, family, and friends, telling stories of the past and inviting everyone that drove by to come up to his bar for a drink.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, 2023, at Deck-Hanneman Funeral Home, 1460 W. Wooster Street, Bowling Green. Military honors will be rendered at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2023, at Adventurebound Campground, 12611 Township Road 218, Van Buren.
