Dan Schumacher Obituary

Dan Schumacher

The world lost one of the absolute greats Sunday, March 9, at 4:13 p.m. Dan passed peacefully with his two daughters by his side. To know Dan was to love him. He was an absolute friend to anyone he met. He was more than a friend; he was a very proud father and Papa, an avid golfer, a Pilgrim at the Moose, a volunteer, a huge Buckeye and Buccaneers fan, and a guaranteed smile.

Dan spent his entire career as a surgical technician at Blanchard Valley Hospital. He had a way to make you completely at ease as he wheeled countless patients to and from surgery. He will be remembered as a positive and cheerful coworker who was always ready to keep you on your toes.

Dan's most passionate hobby was being a lifelong member of the Findlay Moose. He held pretty much every position possible at some point during his life. He was dedicated to the community and mission of the Moose. The family would like to take a few moments to share our gratitude to the Moose specifically and all of the members who loved and appreciated our father and for the overwhelming amount of support during this extremely difficult time.

Dan leaves behind two daughters, Kim (Andy) Wiles and Kasey (Paul) Schumacher; and six grandchildren, Kyle, Noah, Mackenzie, Emma, Brayden, and Neveah. He is also survived by his mother, Georgia; and brother and sister. He also has numerous nieces and a nephew. He is joining his father, Paul, who passed a couple years ago.

There will be a celebration of life/memorial for Dan from 1-5 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 2025, at the Findlay Moose Lodge. There will be a special celebration at 2 p.m. to honor his legacy at the Moose. The celebration is open to all. The family has set up a gofundme page to help cover the extremely unexpected expenses; there is also collection jars at the Moose and Wolfies. We thank these businesses and organizations for their generosity.

Reading this reminded me a lot of my introduction to Dan as I went into my young adult years. Dan was around for a good chunk of it. He definitely kept me on my toes, but in wonderful ways that were full of light and love. He was a dear friend/father-like figure to me during those years and I am forever grateful to have met him and be lucky enough to share those times with him. He truly did have an incredible light to him that he loved shining onto others in hopes that it would bring a smile onto their faces and perhaps brighten their darkened days.

He was there for my late mother as well towards the end of her life and I know my family (and I) are incredibly grateful to him for being there for her during those times (as well as just being in her life as a dear friend over her years as well). Much love and best wishes to all of you family and friends!
