Concetta Connie Makrides

For those who knew Connie Makrides, we have a hole in our hearts today. Concetta Yolanda Cusma Makrides passed away peacefully Saturday, January 18, 2025, among her family. Connie was born October 24, 1927, and celebrated her 97th birthday in October 2024.

Connie is survived by her three children and their spouses, Karen Beard and her husband, David of Mt. Blanchard; Terry Buddendorf and her husband, Jim of The Villages, Florida; and Tom Makrides and his wife, Paula of St. Simons Island, Georgia. Connie is also survived by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Jessica Kemerley and her husband, James, and daughter, Jamie; Erin Teegardin and her son, Griffin, and daughter, Bernadette; Nicole Buddendorf-Greenhalgh and her husband, Richard; Dr. Madeline Buddendorf, Caroline Buddendorf, Brandon, Alex, and Michael Makrides. Connie was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Manny (Emmanuel) who passed away in 2003.

Connie spent her first 50 years in Canton, where she was born, and met Manny dancing at Meyers Lake Moonlight Ballroom to the big band tunes of the late 1940s. Connie worked at City Hall in Canton as a clerk in the traffic department. She was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish and active in Altar Rosary and volunteer work like the annual festival. She spent the next 40 years in Florida on Marco Island as the condominium manager of the Prince Condominium for 15 years then retiring to Bonita Springs and Estero. In each place she brought her spirit of volunteerism to her church and community as a Eucharist Minister and Bereavement volunteer. Her love of crafts brought her to a quilt making group that made hundreds of quilts for people in need over her years. Connie read to young students in communities of need and she made thousands of delicious cookies and food for special occasions and needs. She spent the last seven years with daughter Karen in Ohio and continued to volunteer, cook, bake and attend sporting events and plays to see her great-grandchildren who fortunately lived right around the corner. Connie will always be remembered for her delicious cooking and baking and all her hard work no matter what she did.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Friday, January 24, 2025, at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Our Lady of Consolation in Carey.

Burial will be at Naples Memorial Gardens in Naples, Florida.

The family requests that memorial contributions in the memory of Connie be made to Our Lady of Consolation, 315 Clay Street, Carey, Ohio 43316.
