Clara Marcella (Tate) Spencer

Clara Marcella (Tate) Spencer, 97, of Fostoria, passed away Friday, Aug. 30, 2024, at her home.

She was born March 28, 1927, in Fostoria, to Wesley and Bertha (Cousin) Tate. She married Robert Spencer on March 28, 1950, in Fostoria, and they later divorced.

She is survived by her sons, Michael Spencer of Fostoria and Tracy A. Spencer of Los Angeles, California; daughters, Deborah Spencer of Fostoria, Belinda Lawrence of Jacksonville, North Carolina, and Desiree Spencer; sister, Wilda (Obi) Okeke of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Cami (Jeff ) Van Beveren, Chassity, Epiphany, Joseph, Apollonia, and Alexander Lawrence, and Cory and Chase Cook; great-grandchildren, Leyallen, Caleb (Stephanie), Colin (Maye), Cameron Gooding, and Maverick Lawrence; great-great-grandchildren, Talia, Spencer, and Ocean Gooding; three nieces; and three nephews.

Clara was preceded in death by her parents; two infant twin sons; and daughter, Karla Cook.

Clara was a 1945 graduate of Fostoria High School. She attended Bowling Green State University for one year and graduated in 1949 from Wilkins Cosmetology School. In 1979, she was named Fostoria's Mother of the Year. Clara retired in 1991 as a Foster Mother. She fostered over 67 children in her 27 years. She was the former owner and operator of C.L. Fashions Dress Shoppe in Fostoria. She was a member of Faith Chapel AME Church in Fostoria.

Clara's funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, 2024, at Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria. Visitation will be 11:30 a.m. - 1 :30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria.
