Carlton Rule Obituary

Carlton Leroy Rule

Carlton Leroy Rule, a World War II Navy veteran of Findlay, peacefully passed away Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2024, at Birchaven Village at the age of 96. He served on the USS Franklin and received the American Theater Medal and Victory Medal.

Carlton was born May 17, 1927, in Kenton, to Guy and Nellie (Baker) Rule. He married his sweetheart, Ruthanna (McNutt), on Thanksgiving Day 1950 in Wharton, and she preceded him in death in 2019.

Carlton was a member of IBEW Local 8 in Toledo and attended United Methodist Church. Many times, he would volunteer at Findlay Chopin Hall and Blanchard Valley Hospital Auxiliary. Carlton enjoyed hunting, working on cars, woodworking, and electrical projects.

He was a much-loved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His smile and sense of humor will be greatly missed.

Those left behind to cherish Carlton's memory are his grandchildren, Jason W. Rule of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Beth-El Shepherd of Anderson, Indiana; great-granddaughter, Eva Mae Shepherd; and daughter-in-law, Diane Powell Rule of Findlay.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; son, Steven P. Rule; brother, Guy Rule; and sisters, Bernice McLree, Lavon Derr, Alice Kratt, and Ruth Joliff.

Ann and I lived next to Carlton and Ruthanna in the mid 70´s and they are the kindest good natured people we have ever known.

Carlton & My Dad, Nial Elder were very good friends. Carlton´s smile, laughter, & Christian walk was certainly very contagious. The two men tackled several projects issues together at StMarks UMC to pay forward their love of their life with Jesus & appreciation of the church.
Carlton will always be memory, a good memory for me. Blessings to his family for knowing him in a way his church family could only imagine.
