Billy J. Moyers
Billy J. "Bill" Moyers, 76, formerly of Carey, passed away Sunday morning, Aug. 27, 2023, at Wyandot County Skilled Nursing Center, Upper Sandusky, where he resided the past two years.
Bill was born Sept. 30, 1946, in Boyd County, Kentucky, to Charlie and Pauline (Pennington) Moyers. He married Linda L. Fletcher on July 8, 1967, and she preceded him in death June 4, 2000. He later married Darlene M. Slavey and they divorced.
Bill's survivors include his children, Jody L. Jones, Scott A. Moyers, and Kayla J. (James) Kain; grandsons, Justin S. Moyers, Kristoffer S. (Christina) Jones, and Dusty W. Moyers; great-grandchildren, Meriyia Kay Moyers and Wesley Billy Joe Moyers; brothers, Jimmy Moyers and Ray Darrell (Faye) Moyers; and sisters, Mary Stewart, his twin Bonnie (Robert) England, and Barbara Moyers.
Bill was also preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Chuck Jones; brothers, Charles Moyers and Johnny Moyers Sr.; brother-in-law, Ray Stewart; nephew, Kevin Stewart; and nephew-in-law, Chris Dillow.
Bill was a member of Lighthouse Pentecostal Church of God, Carey. He was a very hard worker and retired from Porcelain Products in 1995. Bill enjoyed the sunshine, Southern Gospel and bluegrass music, Pepsi, bologna, and watching westerns and "wrastlin." Every year for Christmas, he would give his grandkids a box of Oatmeal Cream Pies, or as they affectionately called them, "papaw pies." He liked singing "You are my Sunshine" and spoiling his youngest daughter, Kayla. Bill was sentimental, humorous, stubborn, and kind to everyone. He loved his kids, grandkids, and had a special bond with his niece, Melanie.
Bill's funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, 2023, at Lighthouse Pentecostal Church of God, 1888 Co. Hwy 96, Carey, Ohio, 43316. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, Carey.
Visitation for friends will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2023, at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey, and 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lighthouse Pentecostal Church of God and sent to the funeral home.
