Betty L. (Burk) Oberly

Betty Louise (Burk) Oberly, 95, of Findlay, Ohio, passed away June 27, 2022. She was born in Findlay on March 14, 1927, to the late Ray and Clara (Kistler) Burk. She had an older sister, Evelyn Beck, who preceded her in death.

Betty married Howard Oberly on November 13, 1948. They were blessed with 72 years of marriage before his passing in 2021.

Betty is survived by three children, David (Debby) of Cypress, Texas, Danny (Joyce) of Houston, Texas, and Debra of Findlay; four grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces.

Betty graduated from Findlay High School in 1945. As a teenager, she worked at Reeces on Main Street as a "soda jerk". Saleswoman at Zierolfs was her next stop of employment. She then worked from 1945 â€" 1949 as secretary at The City Laundry. It was there that she met her future husband, Howard. Betty then assumed the role of full-time mother and housewife.

Betty enjoyed time with her children and volunteered at their various functions. She was always cheering on David at his football games. She attended all of Danny's choir and musical operettas. For several years, Betty was Debra's Camp Fire leader.

Betty loved to garden both vegetables and flowers. Total strangers would stop and admire her beautiful yard. She also loved to host family and holiday dinners through the years. Betty also loved NFL Football, gospel music, and jigsaw puzzles.

Betty was a lifelong member of First EUB Church which later became St. Marks United Methodist Church. She helped take care of the nursery and toddler rooms during the services. Later, she spent over a decade teaching the 3-year-olds class. She was a long-time treasurer for her church circle too.

Above all, Betty lived a well-rounded and long life. She will be forever remembered and missed by her family.

Per Betty's wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private graveside service will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery.
