Betty Houghtaling Obituary
Betty "Sandy" Houghtaling, 87, of Fremont, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 16, 2023, in Fremont.
Sandy was born Dec. 4, 1935, in Fremont, to John and Evelyn (Swedersky) Ireland. Sandy married Richard "Dick" Houghtaling on Jan. 26, 1952, in Angola, Indiana, and he preceded her in death June 29, 2018. She was a 1953 graduate of Fremont Ross High School.
Sandy was involved in Grace Lutheran Church for many years where she sang in the choir, served on church council, and enjoyed teaching Bible studies to all ages. She and Dick were very loving people and always helped those in need.
Sandy is survived by her children, Deborah S. Gallagher of Fremont, Diane F. Houghtaling of San Diego, California, Dixie D. (David) Haley of Lambertville, Michigan, David R. (Cindi) Houghtaling of Findlay, and Denise S. (John) Leach of San Diego, California; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard "Dick" Houghtaling; sisters, Jacqueline A. (Kenneth) Winkle and Marcia R. (Duane) Reed; and son-in-law, Doug Gallagher.
Visitation will be 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 22, 2023, at Grace Community Church, 900 Smith Rd., Fremont. Sandy's celebration of life will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will take place at Dana Cemetery.
