Betty Hissong Obituary

Betty (Stough) Hissong

Betty (Stough) Hissong, 88, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully Monday, May 27, 2024, after a brief stay in assisted living.

Betty was born April 19, 1936, in Findlay, the daughter of Merle and Vesta Stough.

Betty was devoted to her husband of 67 years, David, who passed away May 3, 2022, and her children, grandchildren, extended family, and many friends.

Betty had a fierce love for her family, putting them first no matter what. She served as David's caregiver in the last years of his life, always doting on him and catering to his every need.

Steeped in her Christian faith, cards and bookmarks with Bible verses were everywhere in her home and many spoke of encouragement and turning over things to God. She also lived out her faith through her church, serving in the choir for many years.

Betty was a 1954 graduate of Findlay High School. While in high school, she was a cheerleader and loved to go cruising with girlfriends in David's convertible.

A real estate agent for many decades, Betty used her eye for detail and home décor to make every house a home wherever David's jobs took them, be that Pennsylvania, Missouri, or Ohio.

The Hallmark Channel had no greater fan. Even if she could recite the dialogue of a Hallmark movie after many, many viewings, she watched it again anyway. It was her comfort food.

Betty also sold Avon, loved Diet Mountain Dew, deals and bargains, and laughing hysterically while playing cards with family and friends. On her many trips to Branson, the Villages in Florida, and Lake Erie, she was the copilot keeping the driver awake.

Betty is survived by her son, Brad (Chris) of Baltimore; son, Bruce (Marianne) of Erlanger, Kentucky; daughter, Beth (Bret) of Delaware; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Hissong, Laura (Kirk) Lewis, Alana Hissong, Austin (Allison) Hissong, Tyler (Sarah) Hissong, Faith Crow, and David Crow; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Donald (Joan) Stough.

At her request, a family graveside service will be 3 p.m. Sunday, June 9, 2024, at Benton Ridge Cemetery with Pastor Brian Phillips officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to United Methodist Church of the Cross, 236 Otterbein Drive, Lexington, Ohio, 44904, where Betty was a long-time member.
