After a brief battle with cancer, Elizabeth Steitman peacefully passed on Friday, November 28. Her full and vibrant life continues to be a blessing to a grateful family. Elizabeth, Mom or Grandma Betty, was surrounded during her last week with the same loving, kindness that she always modeled. She is survived by her four children: David, Daniel, Peter, and Lisa, seven grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.Betty Ann appreciated being adopted into a healthy family after her birth in Westminster, PA. Her surviving brother, Robert Williams, was born 15 months later. The two siblings were raised in Plainfield, NJ until 1945, when the tragic loss of their father to heart failure forced a move. Betty Ann's mother, Elizabeth Williams, migrated the family to Olympia, WA. Betty Ann graduated from Olympia HS in 1950 before attending the University of Washington. That is where she met and married Robert Ward. The life-long commitment to motherhood commenced in 1954, and Betty Ann continued to develop effective skills in caretaking, teaching, baking, sewing, and being a minister's wife. Her husband, Reverend Bob, became the pastor at Sequim Methodist Church in 1959. Betty Ann's desire to serve never wavered; after retiring as an administrative secretary at Deaconess Hospital, she returned to volunteer in the surgery wing to support affected families. Betty Ann's 65 year membership in PEO gave her a connection to a caregiving organization and a group of lasting friends.Betty Ann was preceded in death by an adoring husband, Wesley Steitman. They were married in 1989 and shared a magical connection until he passed in 2001. Wes and Betty are remembered most for their devotion to the grandchildren: Kellen, Blake, Valarie, Katie, Travis, Rachel, and Savannah. Grandma Betty's bond of love is present in each of us. She sparked the fire that unites and burns brightly anytime we smile, hug, or care for each other. Grandma Betty had a beautiful final send off with affection and attention to her every need in those precious good-byes. The testament to the life of Elizabeth Steitman lives on; we are here because of her resilience, determination, and strength.A memorial service will be held at Audubon Park United Methodist Church on Saturday March 14 at 2 pm. Family and friends will gather to cherish the treasured life of Elizabeth Ann Steitman. Donations in Elizabeth Ann Steitman's honor can be sent to the PEO Chapter CQ, Marion Park, 2850 E. Rockhurst Ln, 1051 Spokane WA 99223.
