Margaret Wynne McDermott

NORTH BABYLON - Margaret Wynne McDermott 99, died Saturday, January 3, 2026 at Massapequa Center Rehabilitation Center and Nursing.

Born December 11, 1926 in Brooklyn, N.Y. she was the daughter of Franklin and Helen (McEvoy) Strauss.

Marge moved to North Babylon with her husband and young family in 1956 from Bayside, Queens.

She retired as a Merchandiser Assistant in the men's department at J.C. Penny in Bayshore, LI with 25 years of service. She was a member of Sts. Cyril and Methodius RC Church in Deer Park, LI. She enjoyed crocheting blankets for her family, and attending family gatherings, she enjoyed traveling to Europe, Ireland and camping in Canada, Maine, and in the Adirondacks. She enjoyed long walks with her walking club and family. She was a member of YMCA in Bayshore and attended exercise classes well into her 90's. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Besides her parents she is predeceased by her husband, Thomas J. McDermott whom she married May 1, 1948 and who passed away March 4, 1990. Her brother, Franklin Strauss; and her twin sister, Mary S. Chalkley; and son-in-law, Thomas Hansen.

Survivors include her four children, Thomas (Claudette) McDermott, Jr. of Avon, Conn., Helen (Peter) Lusenskas of East Atlantic Beach, N.Y., Maureen McDermott Hansen of Massapequa, James P. ( Ellen) McDermott of Chestertown, N.Y.; nine grandchildren, Matthew (Kadeen) Hansen, Timothy McDermott, Ryan McDermott, Jeffrey (Jennifer) McDermott, Katherine Gonzalez, Elizabeth (Jon) Kohn, Erin (Stephen) Intrabartola, Margaret (Grant ) Todd, Eileen (Levi) Brown; also 17 great-grandchildren, James and Ryan McDermott, Evelyn, Madeline, and Stephen Peter Intrabartola, Isla Brown, Kayla, Thomas, and Skylar Hansen, Isabelle and Mason Gonzalez, Lianna and John Kohn, Ava McDermott, Leon and Nora Tucker, Madysen McDermott.

Relatives and friends may call on Thursday, January 8, 2026 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brueggeman Funeral Home, Inc. 522 Larkfield Rd, East Northport, NY.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:15 a.m. Friday, January 9, 2026 at Sts Cyril and Methodius RC Church, Deer Park Ave, Deer Park, N.Y. Interment will be at Calverton National Cemetery Calverton, N.Y.
