Theresa Higgins Obituary

Theresa V. (LeVay) Higgins

December 22, 1943 - February 3, 2026

QUEENSBURY, N.Y. - Theresa V. Higgins (LeVay) 82, peacefully passed away on February 3, 2026.

Theresa (Terry) was born in Woodhaven, Queens, N.Y. on December 22, 1943. She attended St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic School in Woodhaven. After high school she worked as a secretary on Wall St in NYC.

Theresa moved from Chicago to Massachusetts and then settled in South Glens Falls in the 1970s. She raised her two children in SGF and Queensbury. She opened Sweet Stephanie's Ice Cream in Lake George where she ran the business for many years.

Theresa was adventurous in her 20's, traveling often to Lakewood, N.J. to skydive. She was a licensed skydiver with a total of 211 jumps. She had a stunning photo of her exiting the plane featured in a magazine article on skydiving. Her family and friends were always in awe of her skydiving accomplishments!

She had the uncanny ability to say a million words with a flash of her smile or a single raised eyebrow.

Theresa was loved in her community and she loved her community; she made friends everywhere she went. It was her genuine and palpable delight in finding a friend that attracted people to her. She also took pride in her knack of connecting people together and watching new friendships flourish. She always said 'birds of a feather flock together' and that was true with the circle of friends she leaves behind. She bowled on a league at the Lake George Bowl for many years and was on the Cemetery Commission for the Town of Queensbury.

She adored and took great joy in her grandchildren and loved to talk about their successes. She will be greatly missed, but we know she has been reunited with her daughter Stephanie.

Theresa is predeceased by her beloved daughter, Stephanie Freeman; mother, Mary LeVay (Brady); brother, Henry LeVay; and sister, Ann Gregg.

She is survived by her son, Robert Freeman (Anya) of Plainfield, Conn.; granddaughter, Veronika Freeman; stepdaughter, April Higgins and grandson, Declan Higgins; stepdaughter, Faith Halnon and granddaughter, Shannon Brown (Halnon); her brother, James LeVay; nieces: Theresa A. Capozzola (Peter) and Susan A. Pfau (Robert); and many cherished friends.

Theresa requested no services and a private burial in Pine View Cemetery in Queensbury, N.Y.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to WAIT House, 10-12 Wait St., Glens Falls, NY 12801 or Community Hospice of Saratoga, 179 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.

Sending my deepest condolences to Terry´s family and many friends. She was like a second mother to me growing up as a friend of Stephanie´s. In 1995, my daughter was born and I named her after Stephanie, Terry came to see us soon after and we kept in touch over the years. My mother passed in 2019 and I´m sure they are enjoying catching up together!
I´ll be keeping you all in my prayers to feel God´s comfort and and peace in the difficult days ahead. With sympathy, Dee (Abbenante) Whible

I was so fortunate to meet Terry, we became friends quickly with lots in common sharing similar roots. First met in 2021, she wanted to be able to look at beautiful flowers, yellow of course, as she stated .. 'before I die'. I am so glad I was able to plant her Gardens per her wishes and did the same for Stephanie's resting place. One of my greatest ever wishes for her accomplished. I believe she is happier now than she has been for a long time and resting in Peace. My sincere condolences to all she left behind, she will be missed.

I met Terry after Stephanie died and we had a very emotional talk but seemed to connect immediately We didn't see one another very often but there was a connection whenever we did. She will be missed by many but I believe she will be reunited with Stephanie. Much love and prayers for strength and healing.
