ANN BOONE Obituary

ANN BOONE
July 28, 1944 - January 24, 2026
Ann Grisham Boone was born on July 28, 1944, in Long Island City, New York, to Nathan Everette Grisham and Sybil Holder Grisham.
She was raised in Irving, Texas, where she graduated from high school before earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History from Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
While visiting family in Abilene, Texas, she met Daniel Boone, Jr., on a blind date arranged by her cousin. They were married on August 12, 1967, at First Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas, and began their life together in Lubbock while Daniel completed his studies. Following his graduation, they settled in Houston, Texas.
Ann taught art and history in various Houston schools and retired after 25 years of dedicated service. After she and Daniel moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico, in 2002, she continued volunteering as a teaching assistant in Santa Fe schools for several years.
Ann was an active member of the Holy Faith Women's Guild in Santa Fe and the Daughters of the American Revolution, Stephen Watts Kearny Chapter.
She was blessed with many close friends who cherished her kind and gentle spirit, joyful presence, and the generosity with which she shared her time and talents-whether creating crafts for the Guild's annual bazaar or making thoughtful handmade gifts for family and friends. Her warmth, sweetness, and genuine concern for others never wavered. She was truly a pleasure to be around.
She is survived by her husband, Daniel; her sons, Kade of Austin, Texas, and Matthew of Albuquerque, New Mexico; her brother, Robert Grisham and his wife, Nancy, of Irving, Texas; her brother-in-law, Mark Boone and his wife, Julie, of Houston, Texas; and her grandchildren, Ashley and Isabella.
Memorial donations may be made to the Holy Faith Women's Guild, 311 East Palace Avenue, Santa Fe, NM 87501, or Kitchen Angels Santa Fe (kitchenangels.org).

Ann and I met in Ms. Pulliam“s 7th grade art class. She was talented. I was not. She pulled me along and we became close friends.
We remained close for the rest of our lives. When we were young and lived in different cities we wrote each other actual letters. That seems so quaint. Of course, later we switched to email.
We kept up a lively email correspondence until her death. We could have gone on for days about the recent Academy Awards show. I so miss it. I so miss her.

I met dear Ann during the address verification phase of the 2020 census, with her home on my assignment list. She and I chatted cordially at her door, discovered a shared love of history and genealogy, and I invited her to our local DAR chapter. She became a valued member, involved on several levels and hosting our summer luncheons. Beyond that, she was a treasured friend and gave me a beautiful book when hubby and I had to relocate to a lower altitude. Her kind and gracious spirit will be missed by many, and I will keep her family in my prayers.

Ann is one of the most kind, giving, caring people I know. I have many wonderful memories of Ann. Dan and Ann were our first two friends when we moved to New Mexico, making us feel so welcome. Whether it was supper together, sharing articles, memories, wisdom, (or her pimento cheese recipe) Ann always brought so much sunshine to us. With all that she did for the Guild and the community at large, for family, and in our lives, she was always there to help, to lend a hand, and to listen. When we welcomed our daughter, Ann made some beautiful knitted blankets that we treasure--my daughter still uses them for her naps. Words cannot fully capture how wonderful she was and I feel so privileged to have had her as a close friend. Ann, we will miss you so much.

Ann was a lovely friend of many years and I was fortunate to have spent some time with her last October when my husband and I visited her and Dan in Santa Fe. She had a beautiful appreciation of art, crafts and nature and it was fun to go to museums and shops with her and to introduce her to two of my very creative friends who liked her immediately. She was a calming presence and a supportive friend and I will miss her but be grateful that I knew her.

This phote of my daugther and Ann was taken in August 2023, which was the last time my family visited Ann in person. My wife and I first met Ann and Dan in 2016 when we just moved from Houston to Santa Fe for our work. I still vividly remember that Ann prepared red chili for us in a cold November. Since then, we have been very close friends despite of our age difference. Ann is such a kind, gentle, and generous person. We enjoyed every moment around her. She is deeply missed by us.
