Richard E. Veneziano, known affectionately as Rich by his loved ones, passed away in his home at age 89 on February 26, 2026, in
Glendale Heights, Illinois, surrounded by the warmth of his family's love by his side. Born into the bustling city of
Chicago, Illinois, Rich's journey began with the promise of a life rich in love, adventure and creativity.
Rich was pre-deceased by his parents, Oreste and Maria Veneziano, his siblings Leonard, Gelsomina, Theresa and his son-in-law Frank Marks.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication through the love of his life & wife of 66 yrs Alfreda. He is the loving father of Michele (Samuel) Hubbell, Susan (Wayne) Long, Melody Marks, Cheryl (Karoly) Pollak, Richard (Michelle) Veneziano, Michael Veneziano and Kris (Tiffany) Veneziano. Grandfather to James, Jessica, Crystal, Frank, Bethany, Zachary (Tesha), Matthew, Jake, Joshua, Ean, Blake, Mia, and Arianna, Great-Grandfather to Summer, Savannah, and Jonah,
Many Godchildren, Nieces, Nephews and Cousins also hold a special place in his heart.
Rich's life was marked by service and skill. He proudly served in the Navy, which instilled in him a discipline and camaraderie that he carried throughout his life. His adeptness as a machinist was well-recognized, and his creativity shone through in his passion for song lyric and poem writing, earning him accolades and awards that brought him much pride.
An outdoors enthusiast, Rich found solace in the embrace of nature. He was often found camping under starlit skies, fishing in the tranquil waters at dawn, or hiking through the vibrant tapestry of the forest. His adventurous spirit led him to many a campfire.
Rich's inventive mind was never at rest; he was an inventor at heart, always dreaming up new ideas and exploring possibilities. Everyday was a surprise as cooking & experimenting with custom recipe's was his passion.. His family was the cornerstone of his life, and the moments spent with them were his most treasured. He looked forward to spending time with his Grandchildren. It was in the simple pleasures of family gatherings, the laughter of his grandchildren, and the companionship of his wife that Rich found his greatest happiness.
He found joy in lending a helping hand. He was the 1st without hesitation to come to the rescue of anyone in need. His door was always open day or night. Rich was personable and spoke his mind. He could carry on a conversation with anyone as he went out of his way to meet new friends & had a passion for keeping the old. He was the glue that held family and friends together and kept contact with all.
Rich had a special place in his heart for his Geezer Group friends from childhood always looking forward to their gatherings.
Our family would like to extend our gratitude to Lighthouse for being there and their compassion for us all during this stressful time.
As the well-known author Henry David Thoreau once said, "Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you've imagined." Rich embodied this sentiment, pursuing his dreams with confidence and living a life filled with imagination, love, and adventure.
Richard E. Veneziano's story is one of a life well-lived, a journey marked by the love of family, the joy of creativity, and the beauty of the natural world. He will be remembered for his warm heart, his generous spirit, and his indelible impact on all who were fortunate enough to know him. As we say goodbye to Rich, we take solace in knowing that his legacy will continue to inspire and guide us, just as the North Star guides the traveler in the night sky.
A private service was held, but we hope you will join us for public Celebration of Life at a future date.
