Patricia (Pat) Valenta O’Berry, 88, of Chesterfield, VA, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2026. She was born May 15, 1937, in Petersburg, VA, and was the daughter of the late Joseph Frank and Annie Nemecek Valenta. She grew up in Petersburg, VA where she met her husband, Obie O’Berry and they were married on St. Patrick’s Day in March of 1956. Obie and Pat would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on March 17, 2026.
Pat graduated from Saint Joseph Catholic High School in Petersburg, Virginia. She worked as a telephone operator and a secretary. Pat’s true love and focus was on her family. Once her children were grown, she went back to work as a title examiner.
Pat was a nurturing and loving mother and when she had grandchildren, they became the focus of her life. She loved being a grandma and would make frequent trips to Colorado to spend time with her grandsons and was able to watch them play a variety of sports and activities. She also loved taking the boys to the beach and supporting them through all of their endeavors.
She is survived by her husband, Obie O’Berry, Sr.; and two children, Obie O’Berry, Jr. (Trisha) and Valerie Schaad (Pete); and 3 grandsons, Alex Schaad, Owen Schaad and Eli Schaad. Pat also leaves behind a brother Harry Valenta, (LeLe); and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Bobby Valenta and Tom Valenta.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
