Nijole "Nickie" Elizabeth Timcikas Henderson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on October 18, 1939, in Lithuania, Nijole's journey through life was one marked by resilience, love, and an unwavering commitment to caring for others.
Nijole's early years were shaped by the tumultuous times of World War II, which separated her from her family for many years. On her 21st birthday, she made the courageous journey to the United States, where she joyfully reunited with her parents, whom she had thought were lost to the war.
After graduating high school in Lithuania, Nijole pursued her passion for nursing, earning her Associate's Degree from Nursing School in Waukegan, Illinois. On April Fool's Day, she met the love of her life, William Henderson, Jr., during his time stationed at Great Lakes Naval Base. They married and embarked on a journey together that took them to California, Virginia, and ultimately to
Wheaton, Maryland, where they raised their family.
Nijole devoted over 30 years to nursing, working at University Nursing Home in Wheaton, where her compassion and dedication touched the lives of countless patients. In retirement, she and William embraced life on the Eastern Shore, where they enjoyed traveling, dancing, and spending time at casinos. Dancing brought her joy, and she fondly recalled her years of performing polkas with her dance group in Lithuania.
Nijole is survived by her loving husband, William Henderson, Jr.; her son, Daniel Henderson (Amy); her daughter, Sheila Bowers; her cherished grandchildren: Laura Henderson, Samantha Bradford (Jack), John "Jack" Henderson, Emma Majors (Brandon), Jessica Bowers, Matthew Henderson, and David Timmons; her great-grandchildren: Connor, Jacob, Jamie, and Lincoln; her dear sister, Regina Casey (Edward); and her best friend, Deborah Collins.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during visitation on Monday, March 16, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Holloway Funeral Home, 501 Snow Hill Road,
Salisbury, Maryland. A funeral ceremony will follow at 2:00 PM in the same location. Nijole will be laid to rest in Pittsville Cemetery.
