Kathleen Malloy Stange passed away on February 4, 2026, at her home in
Royal Oak, Michigan. Born on March 25, 1957, in Royal Oak, she spent most of her childhood in Farmington Hills. Kathleen would later move to Chicago to start her career in sales, which flourished with her vivacious personality, eye for detail and impeccable taste, and her ability to connect with people (and make them laugh!).
Kathy will be remembered for her big personality. Most people would describe her as spunky, sassy, quick-witted, and very sarcastic. She never took herself too seriously, and loved a good laugh (with a snort!) and an inside joke. Kathy was unapologetically herself and connected with people in a way that made them feel seen and appreciated for who they were. She brought out a sense of humor in everyone she met and encouraged people to be silly, fun, and joyous. She loved any excuse to dance, whether it was on the dance floor or just in the car. Kathy loved her family fiercely. She was loved dearly by her family and her in-laws. She dedicated so much love to her daughters, as well as her nieces and nephews. She had a special and unique relationship with all of them; everyone can remember a few hilarious Aunt Kathy memories. Kathy had a strong faith and found community at St. James Church, where she was an active member for over 20 years.
She spent much of the last decade fully committed to her newest role, Grammy. Grammy was always there for family dinners, soccer practices and games, bedtimes, birthday parties, school events and everything in between - any way she could to show up for her daughters, son in law, and her grandson. She will be deeply missed.
Kathy is survived by her daughters Maxine (Kevin) and J Stange, and her grandson Kasen, who were all truly the lights of her life. She is survived by her brother Bill (Holly) Malloy, her mother-in-law Mary Ann Stange, and by many brothers and sisters-in-law. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, each of whom she loved so much. Kathy was preceded in death by her mother, Lois (John) Furr, her father William (Ginny) Malloy, her former spouse, Doug Stange, and her father in-law Don Stange.
There will be a memorial service honoring the life of Kathleen at St. James Episcopal Church in Birmingham, Michigan, on February 27, 2026 at 11 am, with lunch to follow. The family kindly asks to consider making a donation to St. James Episcopal Church in Birmingham in Kathy's memory.
