Fredrick "Freddy" Henry Sears, age 74, of Versailles, passed away unexpectedly on March 2, 2026, at his home. He was born on March 20, 1951, in
Columbus, Kansas, a son of the late Grover Don and Opal Nadine (Wells) Sears.
Freddy had a deep love for adventure and the outdoors. If you were looking for him, chances were you'd find him outside tending his garden, feeding the fish in his pond, or preparing for the next deer camp. Deer camp was one of his greatest joys. He proudly hosted family and friends there, building traditions rooted in laughter, storytelling, fellowship, and memories that will be cherished for generations.
He had the most contagious laugh and a signature smirk that those who knew him will never forget. Freddy enjoyed the simple things in life such as a cold Keystone Light, a dip of Grizzly, and a crisp Dr. Thunder. He was a simple man in the very best sense of the word, content with the life he built and the people he loved.
Freddy was always willing to lend a helping hand. Whether someone needed advice, support, or just a steady presence, he showed up. His courage, generosity, and unwavering loyalty to those he cared about will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is survived by his sons, Eddie Sears of
Columbus, Kansas, Kyle Sears of Gravois Mills, Missouri, and Spencer Sears and wife Tiffany of
Versailles, Missouri; his beloved grandchildren, Dakota Sears, Karson Shuck, and Kylie Sears; along with many other relatives and dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Earl Dale and Shirley Sears.
Though he may be gone from our sight, his laughter will echo through deer camp and his legacy will live on in the family he loved so fiercely.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Wednesday, March 11, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Memorial contributions are suggested to the family.
Arrangements are under the direction and care of Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.
