Dorothy Ann Sherrill was delivered stillborn on November 21, 2025, at 2:53 a.m. at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca, Kansas.

Her nine months in utero with her parents, Jacob and Cara (Knapp) Sherrill of Du Bois, Nebraska, were considered a blessing. Their time together will be forever cherished. Dorothy was an active baby, kicking often and making her presence known. At her 20-week sonogram, she showed a spirited personality by moving her feet in protest. Dorothy was a beautiful baby girl, with her father’s nose and chin and her mother’s full, gorgeous head of hair.

Dorothy was deeply loved and will be deeply missed. The family trusts in God’s purpose in taking Dorothy.  In keeping with the meaning of her name, she was a gift from God. “Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb is a reward” (Psalm 127:3).

We give all glory to God for this wonderful gift of Dorothy Ann.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her sibling, Noah, through miscarriage; her paternal great-grandparents, James Edward Sherrill Sr., Dorothy Marie Sherrill, and Jo Ann Lax, with Dorothy and Jo Ann being her namesakes; her maternal great-grandfather, Warren Sheldon Freeborn Jr., and her cousin, Jesse Lee Knapp, through miscarriage.

Dorothy is survived by her parents, Jacob and Cara Sherrill; her grandparents, James and Jennifer Sherrill and Curtis and Catherine Knapp; her great-grandparents, Dennis and Barbara Knapp and Joann Freeborn; her aunts and uncles, Kerry Sherrill, Joshua (Emily) Sherrill, Nathan (Kirsten) Knapp, Anna Knapp, Jonathan Knapp, Haven Knapp, Stephen Knapp, Abigail Knapp, and David Knapp; and her cousin, Anne Knapp.

Dorothy’s funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the Nemaha County Community Building in Seneca, Kansas. Lunch will be served following the service at the community building. A private family interment will be held.
