Donald Pitts Obituary

Donald Edward Pitts, 73, from Lovington, NM passed away peacefully on February 4, 2026 in Lovington. Don was born in Matador, Texas on March 26, 1952, to Mary Elizabeth and Douglas Eugene Pitts. He attended school in Matador until moving to Lovington, NM in 1968.

He went to high school at Lovington High School and graduated in 1970. He married the love of his life, Bobbie Paulette Rutherford on June 29, 1972. He retired from EOG Resources in 2017 after working in the oilfield for 45 years. He held a Private Pilot, Flight Instructor and Commercial Pilot's License. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and 4 wheeling, but was most passionate about flying his airplane and spending time with his family.

Funeral services will be held at the First Methodist Church on February 12, 2026 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Ty Bean of Cowboy Junction Church officiating. Visitation will be held at Kirby-Ratliff Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm. Kirby-Ratliff Funeral Home will be handling the funeral arrangements.

Don is survived by his wife: Paulette Pitts of 53 years; and children: Donna Pitts and Darell Pitts. His brother: Kenneth and wife Tami Pitts; his sister: Lou and husband Billy Cogsdil; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his father: Douglas Pitts Jr.; mother: Mary Pitts; and his sister: Judy and her husband, Donnie Cruse.
