She graduated from Lake Shore High School in St. Clair Shores, Michigan in 1966, where she was involved in drama club. She later received her teaching certification from Wayne State University in 1972. Committed to continuing her education, she earned a Master's Degree in Special Education from Northern Arizona University in 1994.
Colleen dedicated many years to teaching. From 1973 to 1988, she taught English, Language Arts, and Speech in Woodhaven and Flat Rock, Michigan. From 1990 to 2012, she taught in the Tucson District in Arizona, serving as both a classroom teacher and a Special Education teacher for middle and high school students. After retiring in 2012, she continued substitute teaching in the Detroit Metropolitan area through 2018.
She was involved in Alcoholics Anonymous, both as a member and as a mentor, offering support and encouragement to others.
Colleen was known for being a good listener, intelligent, insightful, and friendly. She was expressive and outgoing, with a strong sense of humor. She was passionate about many interests and causes and was always eager to learn. She was a caring and thoughtful friend, and she valued meaningful conversation.
She had a special love for animals, often caring for them, helping strays find shelter, and supporting animal-related causes. She was an avid reader, enjoyed coloring for relaxation, and appreciated a wide variety of movies and music. She liked staying informed about national and world events and was interested in learning more about healthy living. She also sought to continue growing in her faith.
Colleen would likely want to be remembered for her passion for education, the arts, animals, and her love and care for her family and friends. She will be remembered most for her kindness, insightfulness, thoughtfulness, and her desire to keep learning and growing. She also had a strong love for St. Francis, the patron saint of animals.
Her life touched many, and her impact will continue to be felt by those who knew her.
