Carlton M. Mills was born on December 18, 1955, to Betty L. Mills (Marshall) in
Girdletree, Maryland, and was affectionately raised by George E. Marshall.
He departed this life unexpectedly at Christiana Hospital in Newark, Delaware on March 5, 2026, leaving a legacy of love and laughter.
Carlton, also known affectionately as TC, spent his early childhood years in Maryland with his mother and siblings where he received his early education in the Wicomico County School District until moving to Delaware at the age of nine. He received his high school diploma from Wilmington High School in 1973. Soon after, he enrolled into the U.S. Marine Corp following in his big brother, Timothy Mills' footsteps. He served four years of active duty as a Field Operator specializing in radio communications until he was honorably discharged on October 15, 1977. Upon his return home, he enrolled in DelTech Community College and worked various jobs. His last employment was with Coatesville VA working as an EMS where he retired in March of 2025.
TC was a very charismatic, comedic, energetic and loving person. He gave everyone a nickname. He had a personality that would fill a room. TC enjoyed things like sports, funny movies, puzzle books and spending time with family and friends. He loved indulging in good food, especially his mother's chicken and dumplings.
TC was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ella and James Mills, father and mother, George and Betty Marshall and siblings: Glenda (Kathy) Robins, Reggie Purnell, Lester Purnell and Oscar Purnell.
He leaves to cherish his loving son, Terrence Mills and daughter Briana Mills, as well as one grandson, Trevor Carlos, and the mother of his children Mary Johnson. He is also survived by two brothers: Timothy Mills and Rodney Mills. Seven sisters: Crystal Patton,
LaVern Mills, Joan Mills, Selina Dickerson, Connie Harmon, Carol Wilson and Brenda Moore. Additionally, he leaves his Uncle Gerald (Sonny) Mills and Aunt Loretta Mills as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.
